CBS News Reports Research Facility Discovers Genetic Code of the Cannabis Plant

CBS News reports that a small company in Massachussetts claims to have unlocked the genetic code of cannabis. Doing so facilitates research and study on the medicinal uses of marijuana, such as the treatment of inflammatory conditions and even cancer.

The findings by Medicinal Genomics have yet to undergo review by peers, however there are over 131 billion bases of sequence which is the largest collection of cannabis genomes. The collection will be released to the scientific community at some point in the fall.

Although the company has headquarters in Massachussetts, there is also a headquarters in Amsterdam which is where the research takes place.
