Spokane: 5 Facing Federal Charges After Medical Marijuana Crackdown

Five men from Spokane, Washington have been indicted for maintaining a drug-involved location and the manufacture and distribution of marijuana. These charges carry maximum penalties including $250,000 in fines and 20 years in prison.

"The owners said they felt state law protected them. Jerry Laberdee, who owns MHP Medical Herb Providers, said he was not aware of the indictment.

"I am almost without words. I can't even tell you how ridiculous it seems," said Laberdee.
Laberdee and his business partner, Dennis Whited, are indicted for actions involving a marijuana dispensary on North Freya in Spokane. It was raided and shut down in May.

It is legal to have medical marijuana in the state of Washington. But it is still a federal offense.
Three other men were also indicted Wednesday. Russell Black is indicted for actions involving a dispensary in Loon Lake. Charles Wright and Jon Vivian were indicated for actions involving a dispensary located within 1,000 feet of Grant Elementary School on Spokane's South Hill. Wright said he could face 50 years in prison because his business was near an elementary school."

$2 Million Saved by Philadelphia by Not Prosecuting Pot Smokers

(This articles is by Chris Morran at the Consumerist. Visit the original article and the Consumerist website using the link at the end of this article.)
Just over a year ago, the powers that be in Philadelphia effectively decriminalized possession of small amounts of marijuana by offering offenders the chance to enroll in a three-hour class that would expunge the offense from their records. Not only did this give Philadelphia police more time and energy to focus on more serious crimes, it has also saved the city a pretty sizable Ziploc bag of green stuff.
"We were spending thousands of dollars for when someone possessed $10 or $15 worth of weed," District Attorney Seth Williams tells the Philadelphia Daily News. "It just didn't make any sense."
Under the program, being caught with up to 30 grams of marijuana is no longer a misdemeanor but a summary offense. By simply paying $200 to attend the three-hour class on the ills of drug use and abuse, the arrestee's record is wiped clean of the offense.
Before this change, offenders faced up to $500 in fines and possible, though unlikely jail time. If the suspect fought the charges, this meant expenses for the city — prosecutors, judges, lab tests, public defenders, etc. By all but decriminalizing pot, Williams estimates that the city has saved $2 million in the last 12 months.
Additionally, police tell the News that there has been no noticeable impact on the quality of life in Philadelphia since the program went into effect.
Looking at the bigger picture, DA Williams says the current way most U.S. authorities treat drug possession is shortsighted.
"I can put someone in jail for 90 days because they possess crack. But if we don't get them the help they need for their addiction, when they get out of jail, they're just going to be a 90-day-older crack addict," he explains. "We have to treat drug addiction as a public-health problem, not just a criminal-justice problem."

The Growing Acceptance of Medical Marijuana

Author Andrew Stratton has written a brilliant article on medical marijuana and how it is slowly becoming more mainstream...

Medical Marijuana - Gaining Acceptance
By Andrew Stratton

Medical marijuana has actually been around for eons but had been prohibited in most countries for many years. Lately, however, various nations have begun to recognize its worth in the healthcare arena. Therefore, legalization of the plant is taking hold globally as well as in the United States of America. New Jersey is the most recent state to vote "Yes" for its legalization.

It is derived from a plant called cannabis. It is often green or brown and consists of leaves, seeds and stems. While thought of over the last several decades as a strictly recreational drug, its therapeutic abilities have begun to be accepted by many.

New Jersey is the fourteenth place in the U.S. to allow its legality with the passing of "New Jersey Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana Act". While the name sounds like a gentle law, it's actually the toughest American version of its kind. Some lawmakers in the east coast are worried that it will get out of hand with certain loopholes. The loopholes reportedly are there to expand its use if necessary, by allowing the list of "debilitating medical conditions" to be added to by health officials.

A former U.S. attorney who is now the Governor-elect, Chris Christie, is especially unhappy with what he perceives as the looseness of its language. Christie claims that California is an example of a state who has become out-of-control regarding cannabis for medicinal purposes and doesn't want his place to follow suit.

The strictness of the New Jersey law lies in its requirement of purchasing the substance only via a state regulated "alternative treatment center". It is the only state to require this route of obtaining the drug; all other states allow home cultivation.

It has medicinal properties and has helped with the following health conditions:

- Cancer
- Glaucoma
- Positive HIV/AIDS diagnosis
- Seizure

The loophole-language contained in the "New Jersey Compassionate Use of Medical Marijuana" states that this current list of health conditions can be added to at the discretion of the state health department. Other conditions that such marijuana is claimed to assist with by other countries and states include arthritis, brain injury, stroke, multiple sclerosis, nausea resulting from chemotherapy, epilepsy, asthma, and migraines.

If a person needs to seek out a prescription writing doctor, he or she should search the internet in order to find alternative treatment centers in their area. They should be prepared to bring health records and current prescriptions and to be examined by a physician in order to receive the okay to purchase marijuana for medicinal purposes.

In Riverside medical marijuana providers can now sell medical cannabis to patients who suffer from a number of conditions such as AIDS, cancer, gastritis, insomnia, anorexia and more. They are dedicated to providing compassionate and knowledgeable service. To know more, visit http://thcmd4u.com

Yours truly is only on level 7, but there are virtual farmers with levels in the hundreds...the higher your level, the more things you can unlock.

Pot Farm was removed by Facebook, but reinstated due to extremely popular demand. Woo-hoo!

Charlie Sheen is a potent indica that is a mix of green crack and hindu kush. It has a faint cotton candy scent and tastes primarily of the green crack strain...gives a energetic euphoria. Lawmakers in Indiana Considering Cannabis Legalization

Indiana lawmakers are studying the issue of legalizing marijuana.

They are also set to look at implementing decriminalization and/or medicinal cannabis laws.

What's interesting is that a top supporter of the legislation is Republican Tom Knollman. Knollman is fighting multiple sclerosis and told lawmakers outright he wished he could legally use cannabis for his pain and discomfort related to MS.

Knollman is one of the most conservative legislators in the state, however he firmly hopes to be able to use "one of God's plants" while remaining a law abiding citizen.

Texas Judge Seeking Harsher Punishment for Willie Nelson Pot Bust

via http://artsbeat.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/07/05/case-of-willie-nelson-pot-bust-isnt-extinguished-yet/

(In our opinion we find this to be quite heinous. Willie Nelson is a 77 year old country singer. Obviously NOT a dangerous, violent criminal. The money and jail space it would take to incarcerate this man could be used to jail REAL criminals like murderers, rapists, pedophiles, crack dealers, thieves, and so on. I don't care that he is a celebrity that is irrelevant to me. And...what kind of stupid judge signs her name "by accident" then crosses it out and changes it???? That doesn't even sound right. This just makes me furious....the man committed a victimless crime and the judge acts like, "oh get him locked up, he's a dangerous criminal." I'm sorry, but FUCK that. A true example of legal ineptitude.Did Parasite Hilton get locked up when caught recently with cocaine, a dangerous drug? NO!)

125 Year Old Woman Said Cannabis was a Key to Her Health and Longevity

To me, this is irrefutable evidence that not only does cannabis do no harm, it actually has beneficial properties as well...article below:

A 125-year-old woman, said to be one of the oldest women in India, died at her home in Orissa, her family said Sunday. Fulla Nayak claimed that smoking cannabis every day was her secret to long life.
Fulla Nayak, a resident of Kanarpur village in the coastal district of Kendrapada, died of old age complications Saturday.

According to her 72-year-old grandson, Fulla was 125. But as per a voter photo identity card issued by the government in 1995 she was 120 years.

The grand old woman lived in a small mud-walled thatched house in Kanarpur, about 25 km from the district headquarters. She is survived by two of her four daughters and around two dozen relatives.
Her eldest daughter, Jamuna, 92, lives in the same village. Her husband died at the age of 50.
Fulla was in the news when her grandson Narayan Nayak claimed last week that she could be the oldest woman living in the world. He had said that he would write to the Guinness book authorities to record the claim.

Fulla was known for her love of smoking ganja and cigars and palm juice. She also loved steaming hot tea.
She had never suffered any debilitating ailment throughout her life. Except for her weak eyesight, Fulla maintained good health and used to walk without support.

Mango 200x200 Marijuana Strain

"Connecticut lawmakers moments ago voted 90 to 57 in favor of Senate Bill 1014, decriminalizing the possession of small amounts of cannabis for personal use by adults. Senate lawmakers had narrowly approved an amended version of the measure on Saturday; House lawmakers concurred with the Senate today, sending the measure to Democrat Gov. Dannel Malloy — who will sign it into law." (NORML.org)

Hemp Used to Remove Cancer Causing Chernobyl Toxins

Multiple sources report that hemp is being successfully used to remove cancer causing toxins from the Chernobyl nuclear disaster.

"PHYTOTECH (see webpage: www.phytotech.com/index.html ) specializes in phytoremediation, the general term for using phyto (plants) to remediate (clean up) polluted sites. Phytoremediation can be used to remove radioactive elements from soil and water at former weapons producing facilaties. It can also be used to clean up metals, pesticides, solvents, explosives, crude oil, polyaromatic hydrocarbons, and toxins leaching from landfills.

Plants break down or degrade organic pollutants and stabilize metal contaminants by acting as filters or traps. PHYTOTECH is conducting feild trials to improve the phytoextraction of lead, uranium, cesium-137, and strontium-90 from soils and also from water.

Founded in 1931, the Institute of Bast Crops is now the leading research institution in the Ukraine working on seed-breeding, seed-growing, cultivating, harvesting and processing hemp and flax.
The Bast Institute has a genetic bank including 400 varieties of hemp from various regions of the world.
"Hemp is proving to be one of the best phyto-remediative plants we have been able to find," said Slavik Dushenkov, a research scienst with PHYTOTECH. Test results have been promising and CGP,

PHYOTECH and the Bast Institute plan full scale trials in the Chernobyl region in the spring of 1999." (from http://www.hemp.net/news/9901/06/hemp_eats_chernobyl_waste.html)
